Continuous Glucose Monitoring

As we grapple with current health concerns it is apparent that something just isn't working right. Our lab values may be normal and yet we don't feel well. Or....our lab values may be a little off kilter and we have a "pre" condition. What does that mean? Prediabetes? What does this actually mean and what can be done about it? Do we wait in line until we become diabetic so that we can have medications?
With the changes in our foods, the changes in our lifestyles and the change in medications to treat symptoms we can feel pretty lousy most of the time.
In response to this JSteele Wellness has decided to offer continuous glucose monitoring with practitioner supervision.
What does this mean, and who will it benefit?
This offering is meant to help those who may have: an inability to lose weight, fatigue and sleep issues, tiredness after eating, sugar cravings and addictions, joint and muscle pain, prediabetes and type II diabetes (not insulin dependent) to name just a few.
Continuous glucose monitoring (Stelo cgm) is a device that is placed on the back of the arm with a very small sensor that stays in place in the tissue between the skin and the muscle. It continually monitors your glucose response to food, sleep, stress and exercise and you learn which activities you can modify to keep this level steady. This is very helpful information as when we can see spikes in glucose (and insulin) we can understand how to better care for our bodies so we relieve symptoms.
Deciding to use a Stelo cgm is a big step that will help to achieve some of your health goals.
THIS IS NOT A ONE SIZE FITS ALL APPROACH
Everyone has their unique medical history, biodiversity and lifestyle. This offering is to help find the barriers that are keeping you from achieving your health goals.
During your first visit we will go over your goals, your food likes and dislikes, what you have tried previously that was or wasn't helpful. We will review your health history, medications allergies, sensitivities.
We will help you insert the first sensor and help to upload the app to your phone.
We will give you guidelines and hacks that will be helpful in keeping you from having big spikes
We may suggest supplements that could be helpful in achieving your health goals
We strongly suggest that you have some testing done prior to beginning or from that last 6 months including a fasting blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol panel, Hgb A1C, ferritin, CRP-hs and vitamin D level. These can be ordered for you through our office and should be covered by insurance.
What you need to have to be successful
*a hopeful attitude and *some flexibility
*A smart phone that you keep charged and near you (within 20 feet) most of the time.
*The ability to record food choices and activities on the Stelo app.
People 18 and younger, type I or II diabetics on insulin are not eligible to use Stelo
What does this cost?
The cost of the Stelo cgm is set by the manufacturer (Dexcom) The cost for the initial setup is $250 and includes the Stelo monitor weekly check-ins and support (15 minute visits).
